Fan Of… #52 — New Camera Gear

Hi all 😁 Feel free to join in this weekly challenge whenever you find yourself thinking “I’m a fan of…” (see below for how to).

This week’s Fan Of… is new camera gear; to be more precise a wrist tether and camera strap.

I’ve always used a standard, round the neck camera strap but found that often, when not using the camera it got in the way or bounced uncomfortably off various parts of my anatomy. I had recently taken to carrying the camera in my right hand with the neck strap wound around my wrist, but was never able to get it wrapped in a manner that I felt it was secure.

I saw this awesome wrist strap by Wisdomstar on Amazon (affiliate), and thought I’d give it a go. It’s really strong as it’s made of paracord, and has a toggle to tighten it onto my wrist.

Added bonus, Jnr got a new adjustable strap as well 😁

All well and good, it feels really secure, but what do I do with the camera if I want both hands free?

The solution I chose was this cross body camera strap by Waka, also on Amazon (affiliate). This has an almost military grade securing plate that attaches to the camera via the tripod screw point. Connected to this is a quick release, swivel hook, which is on a slide ring on the webbing strap. There is a secondary, back up tether point, that goes from the second strap hook up point on the camera body, again onto the webbing with a slider ring.

When using the camera, it is tethered to me and the strap at 3 seperate points, is fully secure, and free to move from my side, upto shooting position. When not using the camera, the strap can be easily adjusted by a D ring on the front of the webbing, to bring the camera upto hip level, and so out of the way.
