Brightness Overload at the Pier — PastSquares Oct 26

Hi all πŸ˜ƒ My entry for Becky’s PastSquares.

It’s a dreich day out there, so I thought I’d revisit some California sunshine & bright colours πŸ˜ƒ

These shots were all taken at Santa Monica Pier. With some of them, I’ve put the original followed by two different square crops.

In the process of editing these shots to square, there was a subtle difference in focus & perceived movement, so I thought I’d put up both using the slider function. In the one below, the left-hand crop focuses on the cars & people on the ride whereas the right-hand one has the cars coming in from the right which I think gives more movement to the shot and shows more of the structure.

Again, two differnt crops from the same image.

  1. Not sure I could ride on this even with the ‘encouragement’ of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers!

and loving the comparative crops – fascinating how it changes it. Whilst great to see the people, there is something about the ones with more structure

    1. I’m more drawn to the structure as well; I don’t know why, but people feature very rarely in my pictures, they tend to be incidental not the prime focus πŸ€”
