Living Near By — Lens-Artists Challenge #225

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Anne of Slow Shutter Speed: Wildlife Close to Home.

We have quite a lot of skwurrels (Scots for squirrels) living nearby that visit the garden regularly; they even come right up to the door (see last pic) 😂

There’s even a family of wee mice living at the bottom of the garden.

I often see deer in the neighbourhood or down by the canal; occasionally I have my camera with me.

Moving on to our feathered friends; there’s always gulls to be found standing on posts.

Having the canal nearby & plenty of wee lochs about means there are a lot of waterfowl…

…& the odd appearance of cormorants.

We mustn’t forget the more common visitors to the garden.

  1. You have such wonderful neighbours, Jez! And well documented they are – how did you manage the tiny mice? They are absolutely cute overload!

  2. hahaha, the skwurrels look quite personable in your next of the woods. Or you have good snacks. I also love the warty red face of the Muscovy duck. Those intrigue me. Nice collection.

  3. This is a charming post. I’m afraid that if I had a shot of field mice, it would be taken from inside our kitchen. They invite themselves in far too often.

  4. These photos are so good. All of them have interesting animals or birds. Thanks for sharing them Jez. The squirrels are so entertaining. Their expressions are really something. They all have attitude I think.

  5. Okay Jez, you win the prize. What a great selection of wildlife you’ve shown us, and all so close to you. Does that cute skwurrel (it is Scottish) a regular visitor. My mother-in-law had a squirrel come to her front door for its morning peanut. Great post!

  6. The little ducklings are adorable Jez – and your squirrels (however you choose to spell them!) are great. The last one apparently plans to move in with you!
