I’m starting my historic Scotland ??????? series with some shots of old ships in Dundee taken on our recent visit.
Unfortunately, we weren’t aware that some historical interest sites in Dundee are closed on Mondays. These shots are all external, but we will be visiting Dundee again & getting some internal shots of these old vessels.

Join me next week when I share some pictures from our recent visit to The Tenement House in Glasgow, a time capsule showcasing life in Glasgow at the turn of the 20th Century.

I’m sure it’s not the right period, not the right ships … but: Horatio Hornblower vibes. ?
I stayed landbound: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2024/06/03/im-a-fan-of-shingles/
Definitely Hornblower era for the Unicorn ?
Beautiful photos, Jez! I’m a fan of old ships, but living where I do, I don’t get to see many. >frown<
I'd never heard of a lightship before visiting Baltimore Maryland a few years ago and saw the Chesapeake on display for touring there. It is interesting to me to see another.
Thanks, John ? There are quite a lot of lightships still in use around the UK, owing to a lot of areas of very shoal water & constantly shifting sub-surface sand banks quite a distance offshore ?
Inspired to release my inner pirate

Wonderfully captured, sweetie! Such a shame we have to go back to tour the interiors… ??
?
Unicorn and Discovery both well worth visiting. The lightship belongs to the hotel opposite – I wonder if they have any plans for it?
That would be interesting to see if they do something with the lightship. Definitely going back when the ships are open to visitors ?
Wow that’s an unusual craft.
Very; she was never fitted for masts & became used as a depot & HQ ship.
This is an interesting roof on a ship!

She was built at the end of the Napoleonic wars & so was never rigged out with masts. She had a roof structure built & saw most of her service life as a depot ship or as military headquarters before finally seeing out her days as the HQ for the Dundee Royal Naval Reserve.
