A nautical one this; a lot of harbours have leading lights denoting the safe channel. When the fore and aft lights are in “line” you are on the transit line, and in the centre of the safe channel. These particular ones are the leading lights for Arbroath Harbour.
In the picture below, if you saw the lights aligned as they are from outwith the harbour, you would be to starboard of the centre line.
