This sculpture of a working horse & handler can be found at the Falkirk Wheel. Working horses were key to industry back in the day & towed the barges along the canal, before they became motorised.

Jez, I don’t know I missed your post, but I did. I love this statue. It is so cool, and I love the history lesson, too! 🙂 Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thanks, Marsha 😊 Hope you’ve had a great time 🎉
Had a great one so far. I’m glad I have a warm cozy house, though. 🙂
Congratulations! I featured your post on PPAC this week.
I hope your weekend is filled with wonder.

Thank you so much, Cee 😊
That’s an amazing sculpture Jez
I’ve never seen ones made of reeds before 😃
Me neither
This is such a cool “sculpture” the hairyness of it is just right for a working or draft horse.
It does work perefctly for the subject 😃
Oh what wonderful art pieces these are for this week. 😀 😀
Thanks, Cee
These sculptures are intriguing! I like their scratchy surfaces.
It’s a very different material to work with 😃
Is this sculpted from hay?
I think they’re made from dried reeds 🤔
Hmmm. It’s quite interesting. Never seen anything like it.
Reeds grow in abundance at the canal, so I think that might be the reason the sculpter chose them 🤔
