History in Miniature — Lens-Artists Challenge #214

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Ann-Christine: Favourite Finds. This is also my entry for CFFC: Man-made items.

I’ve always enjoyed learning about history, with a great side bonus of seeing miniature models of old buildings & old technology.

First off is a model of Arbroath Abbey in the visitors centre.

Up, Down & Inbetween — Lens-Artists Challenge #213

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Amy: Here Comes the Sun.

Sunrise, one of my favourite times of the day for a bit of natural drama; although in Scotland, it can mean an early rise to catch it 😂

Battle in the Mist — Lens-Artists Challenge #212

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Patti: Motion.

This first series of shots was of an aerial battle envolving 3 ravens on a snowy & misty morning. I was shooting at the limit of my 18-300mm zoom in low light conditions which was not ideal. The end result is that the pictures aren’t as crisp as I would normally want, but I think it adds to the overall chaos of aerial combat.

Guess Who? — Lens-Artists Challenge #211

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Anne of Slow Shutter Speed: What’s Your Photographic Groove.

If you guessed Lensy, give yourselves a gold star & sweetie. Lensy is, of course, my particular Photographic Groove, but not my only one.

Two Old, One New — Lens-Artists Challenge #210

Hi all 😃 My entry for this week’s challenge, set by Sarah of Travel With Me: Picking Favourites.

This first shot is of a sunrise I captured in the coastal town of Arbroath, Scotland, & is my number one choice. To capture this meant an early rise whilst on holiday–with sunrise at about 0530. I’d also looked at the weather for the morning & the conditions looked like they would be ideal. We were up (yes, my long-suffering wife came with me 😂) at about 0430, had a quick breakfast & headed to the seafront to get a good vantage point. There was a bank of low cloud sitting on the horizon with higher cloud above catching the sun’s colours before it arrived, which I took several shots of. Finally, the sun peeked over the top of the clouds & turned the world orange just as a small fishing boat left the harbour. The fishing boat is more of a silhouette, just like the gulls following it, but you can see the light glowing through the windows of the wheelhouse. There was also an interesting reflection off the seawall top–on the left of the picture. I love the scene as a whole, but it’s also the fact it was a planned-for-shot that worked & the fishing boat was an added bonus.

My Favourites — Lens-Artists Challenge #129

Hi all 😃 My entry for this weeks challenge, set by Tina: Favourite Images of 2020.

Travel was very much curtailed in 2020, but it’s amazing what we can see within walking distance of home!

Starting off with these shots of a visiting squirrel drinking from small puddles on the shed roof.

Had a lot of fun playing with my new macro lens; these are my favourites!

My lensball was also a new toy, & much experimantation helped me to learn what does & doesn’t work. Basically, yay for landscapes! although the shot of daisy cottage with a daisy had to make the selection too 😃

…and finally, I managed to get a decent shot of the moon (the last full moon of 2020) 😃😃
